PARENT PARTICIPATION at HYCCC

Parents have many opportunities to contribute to the life of the classroom and the Center.  There are daily exchanges with teachers and a chance t linger at drop off or pick up to reach, play or interact with your child's group.  Some parents participate  at HYCCC through other volunteer opportunities like helping to go on a field trip, make pretzels with the classroom or support in organizing a project.  Some parents choose to participate on our Center Council, a volunteer group that supports parent education and program goal setting.  Parent parcipation offers a valuable opportunity for parent and teacher partnership, as the more we can work side by sic both in and out of the classrooms, the closer we will move toward our goal of understanding.  We find parent participation greatly enriches the parent teacher dialogue and permits parents to become a full-fledged par of the child's every day school world.

The link between parents and teachers is of great benefit to a child’s development. Teachers appreciate parents’ information and insights about their children, and their time together is a great way to discuss, question, and observe. Likewise, parents may observe and gain perspective about child development in general and their own child in particular.

In addition to classroom time, parents may also contribute to the Center by helping at our Annual Open House and honoring our teachers during National Teacher Appreciation Week. These contributions add so much to our community. We look forward to partnering with you!

For Educators

Welcome!  We love partnering with teachers who are life-long learners, excited to grow and committed to the work of early education.

As a center, we are inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach and its teaching practice. Teachers work together to create authentic Reggio inspired learning in their classrooms every day. Relationships are at the heart of our work and the child is seen as a protagonist in their learning. Intentional focus is given to observation and reflection which guides our planning process and allows us to create a curriculum that captures, delights. and engages the children.

We firmly believe that learning happens through play and our play-based program has a strong focus on loose parts and process rather than the product of art. Children in our older classrooms are included in the planning process and are given opportunities to share what they would like to learn more about. Many of our classrooms have on-going and extended curriculum that can span many months to whole years.

Anti-Bias and Anti-Racist work is foundational to the HYCCC community. For our staff this often looks like meeting monthly as part of our AB/AR Committee, ongoing professional development, and extensive self-reflection. In our classrooms this means having developmentally appropriate conversations, interactions and  provocations.  Social justice projects are an integral part of our work with the children.

We have six classrooms - two infant rooms, two toddler rooms, two preschool rooms and a full Studio Art program. Please reach out to us for more information on teaching at HYCCC!
